NIL at Saint Andrew's School

During the summer of 2024, the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) and the Florida Department of Education approved a new bylaw and guidelines related to amateurism, athletic eligibility, and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) activities.

While the bylaw (9.9) and “quick guide” speak for themselves, including specifying the type of engagements that are permitted and prohibited, Saint Andrew’s School recognizes the potential interest for student-athletes and the importance of clarifying expectations related to any NIL-related activities associated with the School or students enrolled in the School.

Thus, student-athletes at Saint Andrew’s interested in pursuing NIL should do the following:

  • Follow all the provisions in the FHSAA bylaw (9.9), which governs all such activity for high school athletes in Florida;

  • Work closely with their parents/guardians, including to seek legal and financial advice, as needed, regarding any activities and contracts;

  • Ensure future eligibility standards continue to be met with governing athletic associations (such as NCAA and NAIA), which are not directly connected with the FHSAA guidelines;

  • Notify their head coach and the Director of Athletics of any NIL agreement(s);

  • Within 5 business days of signing any NIL agreement, submit to the Director of Athletics the required registration form (GA1 - Affidavit of Amateurism), which must include student and parent/guardian signatures, as well as the endorsement from the School, which is then submitted by the School to FHSAA;

  • For the use of any Saint Andrew’s logos, markings, or names, submit in advance of use a written request to the Director of Athletics specifying all of the parameters involved, including the identifiable items requested, the type and duration of activity, the parties involved, etc.;

  • For the use of any Saint Andrew’s facilities, submit in advance of use a written request to the Director of Athletics specifying all of the parameters involved, including the space(s) requested, the type and duration of activity, the parties involved, etc.

More information about NIL, including a short online course provided by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), is available on the FHSAA website
