Scots Claim Team Titles at 2025 Tampa Bay Classic

SA Swimming and Diving Team at Tampa Bay Classic

Our Saint Andrew’s swimmers and divers took the top team spot at the prestigious Tampa Bay Classic over the past weekend. Diving competition was held at Berkeley Prep School on Friday, September 26, and the swimming competition was at the historic North Shore Pool in St. Petersburg on Saturday, September 27. There were 22 teams participating, and the Scots took top honors in the girls meet, scoring 440 points to best runners-up Carrollwood Day School 202 and Calvary Christian 194. Our boys dominated in a similar fashion, scoring 458 points ahead of Shorecrest with 316.5 and Berkeley Prep with 219.

As has become tradition, success in the relay events highlighted the weekend as the Scots went six for six, winning every relay race in the meet. The boys sweep included meet records in the 200 Medley and 400 Freestyle Relays. Conner Brinley, Jared Berke, Carlos Pineda, and Cash Vinas posted a 1:33.13 in the 200 Medley and in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Senior William Domokos-Murphy replaced Vinas, and that quartet left a new meet mark of 3:06.86. William and Cash teamed up with a pair of sophomores, Elan Beker and Enrico Guizardi, to claim the 200 Freestyle Relay in a 1:27.95. The girls’ team conquered all of their relay challengers starting with the 200 Medley Team of Nerea Gutierrez, Sienna Kourjakian, Alera Hurwitz and Lexie Lucchese in 1:49.92; Alera and Lexie were joined by Addie Kent and Grace Weeks to capture the 200 Freestyle team event in 1:38.91; and to wrap up the night, Ariana Moya Vargas teamed with Nerea, Addie and Grace to finish first in the 400-yard event going 3:35.63.

Our Scots took home top honors in a number of individual events as well, led by Junior Jared Berke. Berke, who was a part of two meet record relay performances, left his name in the record book two more times, setting meet marks as the winner of the 200-yard Individual Medley (1:51.41) and the 100-yard breaststroke (56.82). Both Conner Brinley and William Domokos Murphy were double-winners as Brinley took the 100 fly (51.13) and 100 back (52.20), and Will grabbed the 200 freestyle (1:40.93) and 500 freestyle (4:34.18). Cash Vinas topped the field in the 50 freestyle, notching a 21.58, and Carlos Flores grabbed the win in the 100 free (46.47). Junior Alera Hurwitz posted double victories for our girls team, winning the 50 freestyle (24.27) and 100 freestyle (52.33). Seniors Addison Kent and Nerea Gutierrez were event winners as well, with Addie taking the 200-yard Individual Medley in 2:08.62 and Nerea claiming the 100 backstroke in 57.26.
