The Saint Andrew’s School Swimming and Diving team celebrated a major victory at the Regional Championship, securing a well-deserved spot in the State Championships. This year’s win was marked by remarkable performances, including a standout moment for freshman Millie Cochrane, who claimed the Regional Championship in one-meter diving. Her victory highlights her early promise and represents a milestone for Coach Danielle Castillo, marking her first regional champion athlete. Cochrane’s success is a testament to her dedication and a proud achievement for both athlete and coach.
In the pool, the Saint Andrew’s swimmers delivered impressive performances, with several athletes recording personal bests and season improvements. A significant achievement was the team’s continued dominance in all six relay events. The team heads into the state meet with an undefeated relay streak—an unprecedented accomplishment in recent Saint Andrew’s history.
Leading the individual highlights, Conner Brinley, Carlos Flores, and Lucas Bailey emerged as double-event champions. Each swimmer showcased skill and determination, establishing themselves as competitors to watch at the state level. In the girls’ events, Alera Hurwitz also claimed double wins, delivering exceptional performances that have strengthened the team's powerful presence in the region.
The meet featured intense competition and close finishes, especially in the girls’ backstroke. Nerea Gutierrez Steinhauer and Alexia Sotomayor thrilled the crowd with a one-two sweep, finishing in a photo finish that solidified their standings among the state’s top backstrokers. Sotomayor added to her achievements with a strong win in the 100 fly, while Siena Griffiths claimed an individual win and has been a crucial team leader throughout the season.
With momentum high and an undefeated relay record intact, the team now sets its sights on the State Championships, where they will compete on Friday, November 15th, at the FAST pool in Ocala. Saint Andrew’s is ready to make waves on the big stage and represent their school with pride.
