Day in the Life: William Kindergarten

8:00 - 8:15 am – Arrival and Morning Preparation
After my Mom drops me off, I go to my classroom and put my backpack on the hook and pull out my folder. Mr. Shriner asks us the question of the day…. and today’s was “are you wearing blue?” So I answered - I am wearing blue!

8:15 – 8:45 am – Journal Writing
Today we write about what we did over the weekend and we have to use ‘super sentences.’ Instead of saying, “I see a cat” I say, “I see a big fat fluffy cat.” I also draw pictures and put the date in my journal.

8:45 - 9:45 am – Reading Groups
After Journal Writing, we separate into two groups….one with Mr. Shriner and one with Mrs. Gottsegen. I am in Mrs. Gottsegen’s group. Our group starts with rainbow writing and then we read a story and draw pictures and answer some questions. I like the part where we use the computer for reading and listening to stories.

9:45 - 10:00 am – Snack
When Mr. Shriner calls our table, it’s snack time! Some times we have animal crackers, and then sometimes we have apples and bananas. I like it when they have nachos.

10:00 - 10:30 am – Specials
During Specials, we learn about healthy choices. I use the iPad to take a picture of myself and also draw a watermelon and a bowl of pasta. This is one of my favorite classes since I get to play with the iPad.

10:30 - 10:50 am – Recess
Today I play soccer with Dylan, Bri, Byron, Paul, Shane, Carina, and Lea. It’s so much fun!

10:50 am - 11:50 pm – Math
I am in a small group with Mr. Shriner. We answer addition and subtraction problems using counters. I’m like the leader…I can answer a lot of fast facts in just 1 minute.

12:00 - 12:30 pm – Lunch
Lunch is good because I always have something to pick. I love eating sandwiches…but there is also pasta, pizza, peanut butter and jelly, and jello.

12:30 - 1:00 pm – Recess
After lunch I go to recess. I like climbing the rockwall and going down the slide. I also like the spin thing on the playground. My favorite thing to do is to hang upside down and make a funny face.

1:00 – 1:30 pm – Science
My favorite special is science because we get to do experiments…today, Mr. Cornett puts on gloves and holds the dry ice and makes bubbles. Pretty cool!

1:30 - 2:45 pm – Inquiry
For Inquiry, our topic is healthy choices…so today we are making a fruit salad. I cut apples, oranges, pears, and then add yogurt. Kindergarten is also hosting a health fair with an obstacle course, healthy smoothies, zumba, gymnastics, and yoga.

2:45-3:00 pm – Pack-Up
For pack-up, I pick up my folder and put it in my backpack…so I can get ready to go. Oh yeah, I am really excited for Homecoming on Friday. I like getting my face painted, going on rides and bounce houses, eating ice cream, and cheering for the football players.

3:00 – Dismissal
For dismissal, I go to the library and check out books. My two books are The Man that Walked Between Towers and The Red Wolf.

3:30 pm – Woodworking
Ms. Woody shows us how to make boxes, sailboats, paddleboats, cars, and pumpkins. My favorite is the wood sculpture that I made…a chalkboard with an eraser!
