Day in the Life: JoJo Grade 5

8:00 - 8:30 am – Arrival and Safety Patrol
My parents drop me off at 7:30 am for morning care. At 8:00am, I work Safety Patrol…opening doors for kids, saying good morning, and also walking the JKers to class. After I am done I walk to Mr. Starkoski and Mrs. Feldman’s class.

8:30 - 8:40 am – Language Arts
For Language Arts, we work on vocabulary using frames that includes all the words for the week…words like Agony, Abolish, Rouse, and Catapult.

9:00 - 10:00 am – Math
I have Mrs. Risley for Math and our group has nine other kids. Today, we are working on fractions…adding and subtracting.

10:00 - 10:15 am – Snack
For snacks we have healthy eating options…like pretzels with hummus, chek-mix and grapes, and wheat thins with cheese sticks.

10:15 - 10:45 am – Current Events
This is the time to get a magazine…read an article and answer a couple of questions. I choose an article on the Ebola outbreak because that is popular in the news.

10:45 am - 11:30 pm – PE
I have PE every other day and today we are working on a wrestling competition for boys while the girls work on gymnastics. Lucky for me because I have wrestling enrichment with Coach Sheldon after school…he is a 2-time silver medalist in the Olympics!

11:30 - 12:15 pm – Reading
We are reading City of Ember…. it’s really cool…it’s about an underground city that is built for safety.  Our teacher assigns us a project and I choose to do an advertisement poster board about a scene in the book.

12:15 - 12:45 pm – Lunch
For lunch I like a variety of things…and I really love it when they do breakfast for lunch. But there are side dishes like chicken breast, mushrooms, green beans, and pasta. I like sitting with my friends – Jonathan, Ben, Connor, Ryan, Nigel, Will, and CJ.

12:45 – 1:45 pm – Recess
After lunch we have recess so its time for basketball with my friends. It’s awesome. Other kids are playing football, four-square, and on the tire swings.

1:45 - 2:30 pm – Specials
During science Mr. Cornett first shows us animals like the crayfish and beatle. Then we move on to study magnetism and electricity, which helps with our unit on inventions.

2:30-3:10 pm – Inquiry
The unit of inquiry is inventions so in class we work on an Instagram project. My group draws a picture of a rotary phone for Throwback Thursday! We also work on making an electric motorized car that we get to race. Our previous unit was on economics and it was lots of fun since we got to visit the Junior Achievement Biz Town in Coconut Creek.

3:15-3:30 pm – Dismissal
I put my planner and homework folder in my backpack so I can take it home.

3:30 pm - Enrichment
For enrichment I do both wrestling and water polo. Today I have water polo with Coach Kirk. It is really hard and a lot of work…pretty tiring…but always fun!
