Day in the Life: Alexis Grade 5

8:00 - 8:30 am – Arrival and Homeroom
I arrive early because I have an Honor Council meeting to discuss the upcoming Lower School Open House. I then go to Mr. Herr and Ms. Bossola’s class to start any morning work that needs to get done before class starts.

8:30 - 8:40 am – Language Arts
After homeroom, I have Language Arts where we go over reading, vocab, writing, and grammar. Ms Bossola assigns us an opinion essay….the topic is to discuss three inventions. I pick the television, light bulb, and telephone. I also prepare for an oral presentation featuring our weekly newspaper articles.

9:00 - 10:00 am – Math
I am in 6th grade math with Mr. Herr with a mix of other students in my grade. We are just finishing Chapter 3 on integers and absolute values. I thought the beginning was easy but it got harder towards the end. Chapter 4 is on ratios. Math is definitely my favorite subject!

10:00 - 10:15 am – Snack
During snacks I hang out and play computer games while some of my friends go outside for a bit. Today’s snacks are smart popcorn and pretzels. I notice that the snacks are getting healthier in school.

10:15 - 10:45 am – Inquiry
During inquiry, Mr. Herr gives us a presentation on Form and Function. We also watch a video and give our opinions…and then Mr. Herr does Form Assist Functions.

10:45 am - 11:30 pm – World Language
Today I have Spanish with Senora Ashley. We are working on a doctor and medical skit…like what hurts on the body. We also work on practicing vocabulary about the weather. Senora Ashley even has a cool tally system to win prizes if we do well in class. It is pretty fun…definitely one of my favorites.

11:30 - 12:15 pm – Reading
For class we are reading a novel – City of Ember. We each choose a part of the book for a project so I choose a 3-D mobile. I use cardboard and strips of paper to attach events and pictures that I hand drew.

12:15 - 12:45 pm – Lunch
Lunch is in the Weprin Center. It’s really good. There are fresh soups, like chicken noodle, and a sandwich bar, salads and lima beans. I sit with my friends…Fiona, Sophia, and Sophie.

12:45 – 1:45 pm – Performing Arts
This is my second year playing the viola…but I also play the piano. I have done that for six years. Ms. D has us prepare for the Family Strings Night that includes all the divisions. Outside of school, I also go to many piano competitions.

1:45 - 2:30 pm – Specials
I have Art with Mrs. Misselhorne. She asks us to draw a colorful blueprint of our invention so I draw a grey robot that multitasks with six rainbow-colored arms. It’s pretty fun.

2:30-3:10 pm – Inquiry
Our unit of inquiry is inventions…we build model cars made out of wood and Mr. Herr helps us figure out the circuit. We tested out the cars and then end up racing them!

3:15-3:30 pm – Dismissal
For dismissal it’s time to pack up and go to our lockers to get ready for pick up.

3:30 pm - Enrichment
In enrichment I am on the swim team called silver-one group. Today we do challenge sets to prepare for our meets and competitions. Coach Tiffany has us do 6 sets of 100 yards in the time of 2 minutes and 15 seconds. I like swimming because everyone is really nice!
