Day in the Life - Cooper Grade 10
Before School
I wake up around 7:00 am every morning. Sometimes, before school, I’ll have to do some last-minute studying to make sure I know the material, so I’ll wake up a little earlier to prepare. I drive to school, which takes 15 minutes, and it is the same route I have been taking since Kindergarten. Once I get to school, I hang out in the library with my friends until class begins at 8:15 am.
A DAY
A Block - APUSH
This class was the first AP course that I took. The class starts out by reviewing the daily agenda, which tells us what our class will consist of on that day. This course is really enjoyable because it does not contain a lot of lectures, and it gives me the opportunity to learn and do many activities on my own. Even though the class can be difficult, it is very enjoyable to attend because it gives me a chance to learn about our country from when it first started to the present.
C Block - Honors Sports Broadcasting
Honors Sports Broadcasting is an elective that I chose to take, and it is one of my favorite classes. I have always been a huge sports fan and have always wanted the opportunity to try this line of work. This class gives you the chance to work with the cameras, announce sports games, and learn the different techniques of sports broadcasting. This subject is a lot of fun as it gives you a lot of freedom and amazing activities!
E Block - Free time
This period is an amazing way to be able to rest after the first two classes. It is the longest period you can get free, as it gives you a lunch period too. During this time, I will do almost everything. This includes hanging out with friends, eating lunch multiple times, doing some studying and homework, but really just resting. This is one of the highlights of my day, and it gives me a way to refresh before class.
G Block - Honors Chemistry
Walking into this class is always the toughest of the day, as it comes at the end of my long A Day. Even though it’s tough, it is still one of my favorite class periods. In chemistry, there are tons of opportunities to collaborate and explore, which is evident in all the labs we do. This keeps the class entertaining, as it is not just at a desk, but I can explore with real-life chemistry.
B DAY
B Block - Algebra 2 Honors BC
Even though math is the toughest class I take, it is also my favorite subject. The different challenges I face in that class just help me understand this class even more. I love this period because we have the chance to work with partners to practice everything we learn. This includes going up on the whiteboard, discovering ideas on the calculator, and even using math sites on the computer. The math lab also helps me with having extra help on ideas I don’t understand, which is open every single period of the day.
D Block - Free time
This period is a great way to relax in the middle of a school day. On some occasions, I may do last-minute studying, some homework, or even just practice some schoolwork. Some other times I take this time to spend with my friends. I always spend this time in the library, and it’s a great time to talk with some friends. I also go to a snack shop, which gives me a great midday snack.
F Block - Honors English
English is a great class because everybody is able to participate. Rather than learning in silence, our teacher gives us the opportunity to have daily class discussions. This helps the learning experience as we are all able to input our ideas, truly helping me learn better. I also have a lunch break halfway through this class, which helps refresh my brain before going back for the second half of my class.
H Block - Honors Spanish
After a long B Day, especially after two core classes, this Spanish class is always one of the highlights of my day. My teacher, Señora Shepherd, is one of my favorites, and she helps make the class really fun. We always meditate at the start, which helps me get mentally prepared for the class. Even during the learning, though, it is entertaining, engaging, and never gets boring. Being able to learn a language while having fun and playing a lot of games is an amazing experience.
After School
After school ends at 3:05 pm, I usually have lacrosse. Whether it is a game or a practice, for half the year, I always end the school days by heading straight to lacrosse. The team at Saint Andrew’s has a great culture and always works hard at practice, which translates to how we perform in games. We always end practice with a ton of sprints, which leave me exhausted before I go home. After I drive home, I get all my homework done and study for all my upcoming exams. Then I have my free time, which is watching sports games, talking to friends, and hanging out with my family. Finally, I will get ready for bed, preparing myself for the next day ahead of me.
