Academics

Demanding academic courses that will help your child develop and grow are the heart of our academic program. Saint Andrew’s has developed a top college preparatory curriculum, which includes Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses. Our students in grades Pre-K-12 are challenged to think critically and solve problems through a caring and world-class faculty, while they learn in a collaborative environment safe for risk-taking.

Lower School

Our goal in the Lower School (Pre-K-5) is to open a new world of learning for our youngest Scots while contributing to each child's social and emotional growth. We strive to provide learning experiences for our early childhood and elementary level students that combine a sense of community, trust, and friendships while igniting their interest and curiosity in the world around them.

Lower School students participate in the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), which focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer – in the classroom and the world outside. In alignment with our PYP Programme, Saint Andrew’s has adopted Singapore Math, a program that refers to a teaching methodology that emphasizes a conceptual approach to understanding math. Saint Andrew’s also employs a balanced literacy model for Language Arts instruction. This approach is designed to meet the diverse reading and writing needs of all students using a unique unification of three exceptional world-renowned methodologies: The Teachers College Writing and Reading Project (TCWRP), The Orton-Gillingham Approach, and Fountas and Pinnell’s Literacy Continuum.

We provide two experienced teachers in each classroom as well as specialists in areas such as performing arts, technology, mathematics, science, and world languages.

Middle School

Our goal in the Middle School (grades 6-8) is to create for our students an exciting 3-year journey from dependence to independence. Dynamic, student-centered learning experiences are hallmarks of our program, and include opportunities to collaborate, be creative, think critically, problem-solve, and develop authentic solutions to real-world problems

We offer strong core academic Math and Language Arts courses, using Singapore Math and Teacher’s College Reading and Writing Project methods to promote optimal learning in these core subjects. Middle School students participate in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), an academic framework that encourages students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects and the real world and to become analytical and reflective thinkers. Research shows that students participating in MYP outperform non-IB students in critical academic skills.

Our faculty creates a nurturing environment for learning, helping students discover and develop their unique and individual passions. Our faculty believes in educating the whole child, preparing our students to take on more responsibilities, make good decisions, and develop self-confidence as they navigate the emotional, physical, and social transition from childhood to adolescence.

Upper School

Our goal in the Upper School (grades 9-12) is to prepare our students for success in college and in life. Our Upper School students benefit from an extensive and academically rigorous array of course offerings. In addition to the Honors Program, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB), we provide opportunities for notable co-curricular offerings such as Engineering, Robotics, Media Arts, and Entrepreneurial Studies bridging subject areas like math, science, and art.

Saint Andrew’s believes that balance in mind, body, and spirit is critical to a healthy and successful education. To that end, we offer a wide range of extracurricular opportunities for Upper School students to explore their passions in the arts, athletics, and various student organizations, clubs, student newsmagazine, and associations. Through advisory and assembly programming, faculty and outside experts provide mentorship and guidance, delivering a social and emotional learning curriculum that is second to none. Driven by our Director of Wellness, programs, and courses such as Science of Emotion and Psychology of Performance Excellence help students make the transition from late adolescence to early adulthood with the knowledge and tools they need to lead healthy and successful lives.

International Baccalaureate

Recognized worldwide as a rigorous academic program, the International Baccalaureate (IB) is designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical well-being of students. The IB provides the framework for educating critical thinkers and problem-solvers who are internationally minded and ready to tackle the challenges of the 21st century.

IB students are measured against the same internationally respected benchmarks. The IB Curriculum consists of the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP),  and the Diploma Programme (DP). Saint Andrew’s is one of the few schools nationwide to offer all three and is internationally recognized for its program. Meet one of our IB Diploma Programme students.

Student Support

At Saint Andrew’s School, we recognize that talented students may face academic challenges, and we want all our students to succeed in all facets of the school experience. We offer a strong social, emotional, and academic support system tailored to the individual needs of students, with the ultimate goal of helping them meet and even exceed academic expectations.

Our approach regarding students with learning differences is based upon the belief that we should be sensitive to the particular learning challenges of our students while maintaining high academic standards and expectations. Accommodations are available to grades Pre-K-12 students with a demonstrated need and are granted through careful review by the Student Support Committee.

Scot Life

Saint Andrew’s is a lot more than an academic institution. It’s a vibrant community for all our students and families and a home for our resident students and faculty. There are plenty of afternoon and evening activities available for all our students and numerous clubs and organizations that match their interests. From art performances to athletic events, there is always something to do at Saint Andrew’s School. Your child will be genuinely excited and honored to be part of the Scots Community.

Faculty Excellence

Saint Andrew’s has a world-class faculty.  They are experts in their field and experts in how students learn.  We have invested significant resources in helping faculty develop teaching techniques that help our students develop the knowledge and skills that will help pursue their dreams and make a positive impact in a culturally diverse and technology-driven global community.

The connections that students build with their teachers support them as they learn to take intellectual risks and strive to make significant contributions to their school and the world. Teachers take on the role of mentors and compassionately guide students towards the fulfillment of their academic, athletic, and artistic goals.

A New Hub of Innovation

Scots know it takes just one great idea to grow into a brilliant venture. And inspiration for world-changing ideas begins with a learning space that excites creative, flexible thinking, encourages original voice and vision, and prepares Scots for future exploration. The Dr. Albert Cohen Family Center for Entrepreneurial Studies is one of the first major buildings implemented as part of Saint Andrew’s School multi-year master plan.
