Middle School | 6-8

Our goal in the Middle School is to help our students make the journey from dependence to independence by providing developmentally-appropriate opportunities for them to develop self-confidence and grow in mind, body, and spirit. Our faculty makes strong personal connections with our students, which creates a nurturing environment for learning.

A Curriculum that Fosters Creative Thinking

Our Middle School curriculum fosters creative thinking by offering a rigorous academic program with a global emphasis that challenges students to think in new ways to solve problems. Our program emphasizes the importance of process rather than final product and promotes collaborative learning experiences in the classroom.

Middle School students participate in the IB Middle Years Programme, which provides a framework of academic challenge that encourages students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects and the real world, and become critical and reflective thinkers.

Opportunities to Find Balance

We believe that balance is critical to a successful education and offer a range of opportunities for our Middle School students to explore their passions:

  • Athletics. Our Athletic Department offers a wide range of sports for our Middle School students, including football, track, swimming, cheerleading, baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, cross country and volleyball. Students also build healthy lifestyles through participation in our physical education program that is designed to develop fitness and healthful habits.
  • Arts. Our Fine Arts Department provides opportunities for students to experience both visual and performing arts. Our arts faculty includes both talented performers and teachers. Students explore performing arts intensively with daily lessons and regular performances. It is not unusual for our students to develop a previously undiscovered passion for music or dance. Students select from choral music, instrumental music or dance. Drama is also introduced and all students have an opportunity to participate in a yearly Middle School musical.
  • Trips & Cultural Exchange. All Middle School students participate in grade level trips that include visiting the west coast of Florida in grade 6, the Florida Keys in Grade 7 and Washington DC in grade 8. In addition, students may choose from a wide variety of international trips through Round Square exchange and conference opportunities. Hosting an international student is another option for our students.
  • Social Events. We also hold numerous events during the year, including the Back to School Bash, Scots spirit and Homecoming Week, our Middle School musical, a Spring event, and grade level activities and adventure opportunities.
