Bike Patrol

Bicycle Patrol Officers Nigel Fleary (l) & Stanley Bolinski
One of the fastest growing trends in school safety and security today is utilization of mountain bicycles. Environmentally friendly, quiet, cost efficient, and amazingly effective, mountain bikes are able to bridge the gap between motorized patrol and foot patrol. The Saint Andrew’s Safety and Security Department has now launched a Bicycle Patrol Unit that supports the school’s ‘green’ initiatives.
Saint Andrew’s School Security Officers Stanley Bolinski and Nigel Fleary answered the call and became certified as Bicycle Patrol Officers by the International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA). Both Officers completed the demanding certification course which included units of instruction on fitness and nutrition, vehicular and technical cycling, basic maintenance, equipment, and security patrol procedures. Much of this demanding course is dedicated to hands-on, practical exercises that prepare the Officers for effective safety and security patrols and responses.
The Saint Andrew's School bicycle patrol directly supports the school's environmentally green efforts. According to Headmaster Dr. Ann Marie Krejcarek , Saint Andrew's "...is fully committed to finding long term ways to do our part and live in balance with the natural world that sustains us." Saint Andrew’s Bicycle Patrol Officers are better able to use all of their senses, including smell and hearing, to perform their safety and security duties. Bike-mounted security officers create a highly mobile, visible presence that supports the customer friendly attitude of the department. To date, the Safety & Security Department has received a number of favorable comments from students, staff and visitors expressing their support for this program. Together with the Saint Andrew’s community, we will continue working to maintain the safety and security of our campus for all students, staff, and visitors.
