Rising sophomores and juniors are currently in the process of applying to be part of the SA Student Investment Group that will commence in the fall. Students will be investing real money in the financial markets and managing a portfolio. Students will improve their understanding of investment strategies by reading financial journals and interacting with professionals in the investment community. The focus will be on value investing, but other investment strategies and investment instruments will be examined. Mr. Daly is the faculty advisor, and he hopes to draw upon the financial expertise of parents and others in the community who are involved with equities, commodities, and bonds. One of his former students and an SAS alumni, Larry Melcer '06, is a financial advisor who helped to coordinate the formation of this club. Larry Benedict, an SA parent, has generously offered to make the first donation to enable students to partake in a fund that will provide them with this unique and real-world experience. They will both be involved in educating and assisting students to manage this fund.
