Saint Andrew's School is proud to announce that 14 rising seniors have been selected to participate in the Foundation for Teaching Economics (FTE) workshops being held at 14 college sites nationwide this summer. These week-long residential programs provide students who have just completed their junior year in high school with an exceptional opportunity to learn important economic and leadership skills. The workshops are sponsored by Goldman Sachs.
FTE's entrance process is competitive. Typically, only 1 out of 5 applicants is accepted to the program. Saint Andrew's School is honored that it is only the second school in the nation to have a student accepted and placed at each of the program's 14 sites. In addition, FTE pegs the value of the program at $1,400 per student; thus, Saint Andrew's School students are reaping close to $20,000 in educational value.

"The Economics For Leaders program will do a great deal to improve our students' economic reasoning -a vital skill in a world characterized by market forces- as well as their leadership abilities," stated Gabe Toth, Economics Teacher and Chair of the History department at Saint Andrew's School. "In addition, our students will enjoy meeting bright, inquisitive, and energetic high school students from around the country."
During the week-long seminar, students learn an economic way of thinking about human behavior and experience different leadership styles within a group. Through interactive simulations and engaging lesson plans, participants attain an understanding of economic reasoning principles and how to employ these concepts for successful and effective leadership. Additionally, participants achieve a heightened awareness of the impact their decisions have on others and the responsibility that awareness imposes. As a result, they develop a clearer insight regarding how the world works -- knowledge that is especially helpful to those aspiring to leadership positions. Economics education for these future leaders is especially important because the costs of any misdirected public policies can be enormous.
