For Parents
For many of you the college application process is something you are going through for the second or third time. For some it is a new experience. The thought of having your child leave home, let alone the state, can be daunting. The process often seems like a puzzling task. A clear understanding of what is involved will make it less intimidating. Hopefully, your role as parent in the process will be a supportive one involving frequent communication with your child and the CGO. You have a tremendous investment financially and emotionally in your child's college education, we know it is a time filled with high stress, strong emotions (both good and bad), and a lot of travelling (again, both good and bad).
The college application process is a team approach with the counselor acting as a facilitator to help you and your child guide your decision. The role of the CGO is to provide guidance and advice as you assume responsibility for the process, not to make decisions. We want your child to select the college that will best satisfy his/her needs, interests, lifestyle, and personal and professional goals.
Whether you're a pro in the process or someone filled with questions over this new process, we hope you find this information useful as you guide and work with your child and CGO.
