History
The History Department's approach to the instruction and study of history is predicated on the foundation that Saint Andrew's School is a strong college preparatory institution. The department members affirm that it is essential for our students to master the following skills and historical knowledge:
- a firm foundation in the roots of Western Civilization
- a strong emphasis on the use and interpretation of primary sources, historiography, and collaborative learning techniques
- the ability to think logically, read critically, write coherently, and speak persuasively
- the ability to craft a research paper with emphasis on the use of primary sources, critical analysis, and thorough documentation
- an appreciation of the role of geography in the history of a nation
- an exposure to areas of the world other than Europe and the United States
- an appreciation of the inter-disciplinary approaches to the study of history
- an ability to master Honors and Advanced Placement courses for those qualified

Beginning with the Lower School's social studies curriculum, followed by the Middle School's geography/history duality, and ending with the Upper School's core of history offerings, the Saint Andrew's School K-12 history curriculum offers an array of tools and information.
