January 31, 2014 - Cardinal Gibbons - Regional Quarterfinals (L 1-3)
The Saint Andrew's season came to end after losing a close game to Cardinal Gibbons 3-1. In a constant rain the Scots started the game a little slow. Cardinal Gibbons put a lot of pressure on the Scots and created several chances early on. On the first attack by the Scots a great individual play by Inder Sharma and an even better shot put the Scots in the lead. The Chiefs reacted by increasing the pressure and their better play would be rewarded with two goals to close out the half 2-1. The second half saw a different Saint Andrew's attitude as they gave everything they had to tie the game. The crossbar and a few bad bounces would deny the equalizer. As the Scots pushed up in even greater numbers and great effort, Cardinal Gibbons was just waiting for the game to end. A final play counter attack sealed the game. The Scots close out the season 12-6-3.
January 24, 2014 - American Heritage - District Finals (L 2-3 - Double OT)
The amazing effort by the Saint Andrew's team would come up short as the Scots lost 3-2 in sudden death double overtime. The Scots were once again ready right from the start as Inder Sharma stole a ball in the defensive end of the Stallions to score in less than a minute. The Scots had their chances to increase the lead but then the Stallions got control of the game and were rewarded with a couple of goals to put them in the lead. The attack of Danny Stine from the midfield position and Colin Schotter on the right eventually earned the Scots a well deserved tie. Colin was fouled in the box and subsequently scored the penalty kick. The second half was a high paced affair as once again the Scots defense, led by Derek Paulhus and Jake Gottsegen, worked hard to keep the Heritage offense under control. Very good midfield play by Andrew Wolff, Peter Dykas and Min Suk Choi helped provide the offense with great chances to break the tie. Regulation would end 2-2. In overtime both teams were looking for the win and with 3 minutes left in double overtime the Stallions would score to win the game. On the back of the many Scots fans, it was an incredible effort by the Saint Andrew's team in what was an incredible district final. The Scots are now 12-5-3 and play next Thursday at Cardinal Gibbons.
January 22, 2014 - Kings Academy - District Semifinals (W 1-0)
After losing 5-0 and 3-0 during the regular season, the Scots defeated Kings Academy 1-0 to move on to the district finals. In a game that went back and forth, Saint Andrew's showed from the first minute that they were ready for this. The defensive effort by Derek Paulhus, John Lanigan, Diego Bueno, Peter Dyaks, Jake Gottsegen and Giulio Capolino plus the goalkeeping of Cole Mulligan kept the Lions offense in check while earning the teams 9th shutout of the season. Both teams had their chances and with eight minutes to play Inder Sharma chased down a ball from Min Suk Choi and, after a rebound, put it in the back of the net. The midfield effort by Andrew Wolff, Ryan Sipp and Danny Stine was key for the win. Colin Schotter was once again the most fouled player on the field as he constantly took the defense of the Lions on. Overall an amazing team effort to secure the win. The Scots are now 12-4-3 and next play at Kings Academy against American Heritage Delray. With the win the Scots also secure a place in the regional tournament.
January 21, 2014 - Cardinal Newman - District Quarterfinals (W 6-1)
On the back of scoring by the seniors, Saint Andrew's beat Cardinal Newman 6-1 to advance to the district semi finals. Min Suk Choi would put the Scots in the lead off a throw in by Jake Gottsegen in the opening minutes of play. A few moments later and Colin Schotter doubled the lead off another Jake throw in. The game was back and forth until a clear by Andrew Wolff sent Inder Sharma off and running to score the Scots third. The second half saw more of the same as the Scots would score three more. Giulio Capolino calmly sent a corner kick in the goal while Min scored the fifth off a great run and pass by Derek Paulhus. Colin would round out the scoring on a penalty kick after he was fouled in the box. The Scots extend their unbeaten streak to nine games. Saint Andrew's is now 11-4-3 and will face Kings Academy at Kings tomorrow.
January 10, 2014 - Calvary Christian (W 4-2)
On Senior night captain Inder Sharma led the Scots to victory over Calvary Christian 4-2. Inder took advantage off a mistake by the Calvary defense and quickly put the Scots up 1-0. He would follow that up with a shot from 25 yards out that sent the Scots to halftime with a 2-0 lead. The second half saw the Scots continue to put pressure on the Calvary defense. A long pass by Derek Paulhus was put in the back of the net for Inder's Hatrick. Inder would round out the night with a header goal off a Jake Gottsegen throw-in. Seniors Min Suk Choi and Andrew Wolff controlled the midfield for Saint Andrew's. The Scots are now 9-4-3.
January 8, 2014 - Spanish River (T 2-2)
In the crosstown derby played under very wet conditions the Scots never gave up and twice came from behind to earn a hard fought tie against the Sharks. The first half saw some sloppy play by Saint Andrew's as the rust from vacation had to wear off. Spanish River controlled the ball and took the early lead. A combination play by Inder Sharma and Josh Bernstein found Colin Schotter open on the right side. Colin put a dangerous ball in the Shark box that ended up in the back of the net. The play by the Scots improved in the second half but a miscue on defense had them behind once again. A fifty fifty through ball had Colin Schotter colliding with the Sharks Goalkeeper. The rebound was put in the goal with a shot by Ryan Sipp. Solid defense the rest of the way held the Sharks at bay, with some very good plays by Peter Dykas. Scots are now 8-4-3 and next play Calvary on Friday on Senior Night.
December 10, 2013 - Highlands Christian (W 3-0)
The Saint Andrew's boys soccer team once again came out strong and put the pressure on the Highlands defense. Inder Sharma got the Scots going off a pass by Justin Daniels. Justin would double the lead of a good play down the line by Colin Schotter. The first half would end with the Scots up 2-0. The second period saw the Scots defense challenged but once again a goal was not allowed. It was the Scots 7th shutout of the season. Justin would get his second goal after a pass by Danny Stine left alone on a breakaway. The Scots are now 7-4-2 and play at Pope John Paul II Friday night.
December 9, 2013 - Cardinal Newman (W 5-0)
The Scots offense was too much for Cardinal Newman as Saint Andrew's won 5-0. A throw in by Jake Gottsegen was misplayed by the Newman defense and a own goal put the Scots in the lead. Minutes later a pass by Colin Schotter was scored by Inder Sharma. Inder would score the third on Jake Gottsegen's second assist of the game. The second half saw more of the same as a shot by Nico Aldeanueva once again was saved by a crossbar. Danny Stine would add the fourth off a pass by Nico and Colin would put in the final goal. Cole Mulligan and Danny Henschel combined for the shutout with the help of the defense played by Derek Paulhus, Diego Bueno, John Lanigan and Giulio Capolino. The Scots improve to 6-4-2.
November 4, 2013 - The Benjamin School (T 1-1)
Once again the game between Benjamin and Saint Andrew's would be an even contest. The Scots took the lead in the first half on the back of a Danny Stine shot from 20 yards out. On senior night for Benjamin, the Scots found themselves defending a big part of the game. Instrumental in keeping the Benjamin offense in check was GK Danny Henschel. Benjamin would find the equalizer on a rebound off a free kick. The contest ended tied 1-1. The Scots are now 4-4-2.
November 18, 2013 - Cardinal Newman (W 4-0)
On a late night the Scots soccer team won their third game in a row beating Cardinal Newman 4-0. A very good pass by Inder Sharma found Colin Schotter, who after dribbling by the goalie, scored the opening goal. The first half would end with this score thanks to a superb save by Cole Mulligan. The game continued to be close with the Scots generating most of the offense. A combination play by Inder and Colin ended with a through ball by Inder that Danny Stine buried in the goal to double the lead. The defense of Diego Bueno, Derek Paulhus, John Lanigan, Jake Gottsegen and Giulio Capolino was great once again as they earned the third shutout in a row. Ryan Sipp would score the third on an individual play and then Inder would score the last off a header by Minsuk Choi. A complete team effort had solid midfield play by John Clynes, Nico Aldeanueva and Andrew Wolff. The Scots are now 3-2-1 and next face Pope John Paul.
November 15, 2013 - Pahokee (W 8-0)
The Scots offense came out in full force to get a win over Pahokee 8-0. At the ten minute mark of the first half a pass by Inder Sharma found Danny Stine who quickly put the ball in the back of the net. Colin Schotter would double the lead off a pass by Justin Daniels. A solid tackle and pass by Andrew Wolff led to Danny Stine scoring his second goal of the game. The second half saw more of the same with Derek Paulhus netting his first career goal off an excellent free kick by Inder. Nico Aldeanueva put a shot top corner to make it 5-0 and then a great header by John Clynes made the score 6-0. Nico would score again and a goal by Justin ended the game. Cole Mulligan recorded his second shutout of the season. The second consecutive district win puts the Scots at 2-2-1 overall and 2-2 in District. Next the Scots travel to Cardinal Newman.
November 13, 2013 - The Benjamin School (W 1-0)
In a hard fought game the Scots prevailed 1-0 over Benjamin for their first win of the season. Saint Andrew's pressured the Benjamin defense with the fast attack of Colin Schotter and Danny Stine in addition to the play by Justin Daniels. A throw in by Jake Gottsegen that was headed by Minsuk Choi was put in the back of the net by Colin Schotter. The second half had the Scots battle a tough wind and an opponent pushing lots of people forward. Great defense by John Lanigan, Derek Paulhus, Giulio Capolino and Diego Bueno with the added goalkeeping of Cole Mulligan kept Benjamin scoreless for the game. Colin would generate a few other opportunities and it seemed the only way to stop him was through fouls. Andrew Wolff secured the midfield with aid from Nico Aldeanueva. The Scots improve to 1-2-1 overall and 1-2 in their District. Next game Pahokee on Friday night.
November 7, 2013 - King's Academy (L 0-5)
The Saint Andrew's boys team ran into a fast and efficient Kings Academy team and lost 5-0 in their district opener. The Scots were a little slow at the start of the game and quickly found themselves down 2-0. The second part of the first half saw the Scots increase their intensity and create several chances to score. A sloppy start to the second half saw them quickly down 3-0. Never quitting, the team kept pushing and could have easily made the game closer. Their effort on this night would not be rewarded with a goal. The Scots are now 0-1-1 and face American Heritage Delray next.
November 4, 2013 - Pompano Beach - Scots Open Season With Tie
The boys soccer team put the pressure on Pompano Beach HS right from the opening whistle. Early opportunities were finally capitalized when Diego Bueno picked up a rebound in the six yard box and scored the first goal of the season and of his career. The Scots continued to press forward and doubled the lead after a Colin Schotter cross was put in by Ryan Sipp. In very windy conditions a long shot put Pompano back in the game before the end of the first half. The second half saw more of the same as the Scots had plenty of chances to increase the lead. One of few Pompano attacks ended with a rebounded shot that tied the game. The Scots tried to break the tie in the waning moments of the game but were stopped numerous times by the Pompano goalie. The Scots are now 0-0-1 and will play their first district game of the season Thursday versus Kings Academy.
