Ballet is a discipline and an art form. By offering classical ballet instruction we are teaching standards that have existed as long as this form of artistic expression has. While offering a “studio” type atmosphere we also recognize that dance is but a part of the whole student education. Mind, Body, and Spirit all reside in ballet.
Based in Boca Raton on the Saint Andrew's School campus, Saint Andrew’s Dance Academy is a quality 2-12 dance program that addresses the learning needs of the whole child. Saint Andrew’s Dance program is based on a foundation of ballet although jazz, contemporary/modern, and hip hop are explored. Through a foundation of ballet all other forms of dance are born. Our Lower School dance curriculum in 2nd and 3rd grade offers a unit of dance introduction in Physical education. Dance is offered in 4th and 5th grade as a Performing art option. We have a wonderful Middle School program where the students have the option of taking dance as their Performing Art, which meets five times per week. In our Upper School, students have an option to take dance as a performing art which meets five times per week.
Saint Andrew’s Dance Academy also offers an audition based after school Dance Company for Grades 6-12. On occasion a 5th grader may be invited to join the dance company when talent and dedication are discovered. The Dance Company meets after school for two hours except Wednesdays and weekends. Dance Company does count as a sports credit and is a year long commitment.
Saint Andrew’s Dance Academy has two main performances during the year that involve dance students from grades 4-12. Other small performance opportunities are offered throughout the school year. Performances are a by-product, but are not the primary goal of dance education. Performances are the outcome of the creative process.
Saint Andrew’s Dance Academy also offers a 3 week summer program.
A non-profit, independent, co-educational school for Grades JK - 12, Saint Andrew's School is both a private day and boarding school located in Boca Raton, educating the best students from across Palm Beach County, Florida, the United States, and throughout the world in the Episcopal tradition.
